Listen up spa aficiandos and wellness junkies! This weekend marks the final couple of days of  Yorkville's annual beauty festival Beautylicious.  If you've never frequented Beautylicious before, then you may want to clear your afternoon schedule this Saturday and Sunday to book yourself an afternoon of pampering. What is Beautylicious? Think of it as Winterlicious for spas and salons. Each year the Bloor-Yorkville Business Improvement Area (BY BIA) hosts a ten day long event partnering with at least 50 beauty and wellness businesses in the Bloor-Yorkville neighbourhood offering up top notch spa treatments, salon services and wellness options in the form of prix fixe beauty packages in the hopes of building new clientele.  It's a great opportunity to try out some new spots throughout this affluent neighbourhood in Toronto and also a chance to frequent well renowned spas and salons to simply treat yourself.

How much can you expect to spend?

Beautylicious Yorkville 2016Beautylicious caters to a variety of different budgets and offers prix fixe treatments ranging from $30, $50, $75 and $125. The packages feature everything from hair, spa, skin, face, body, health and wellness service packages. So whether you want to book a blowout for a night out on the town, or a relaxing massage chances are you'll find your beauty poison.

Try something Old, or Try something New

The best part of Beautylicious: You can enjoy some classic treatments at well known hot spots throughout the city, like a customized facial at the Stillwater Spa ($125) or a Mediterranean Scrub at The Windsor Arms; or you can take a chance because of the price value and try some really unique treatments for a beauty and wellness adventure. The Ecomed Holistic Center offers three unique massage options called the Sammurai, Hot Stone and Onnetsuki. I tried out a combination of the Hot Stone and Samurai massage and was pleasantly surprised at how relaxed I was when the treatment was complete.  The Sammurai massage features a bamboo broom that is gently tapped all across your body from your shoulders down to your feet.  During the treatment I was quite alert as the bamboo broom is applied in a rhythmic pattern.  This techique was historically used by Japenese Samurais to help with recuperation after battle and helps  ease muscle tension, improve blood circulation, relax the mind and also release muscle spasms. The warm stone massage feels quite dreamy comparatively as two large heated stones are gently rubbed against the body from head to toe while you lie on a heated bed under a sheet.  The massage finishes with a twenty minute period of relaxation on your own to allow yourself to fully rejuvenate yourself. Don't lose your chance to try out this treatment for $50 this final weekend of Beautylicious!
