Give back during the holiday season by volunteering!

giving back to your community

The holiday season is always hectic, and it can be stressful trying to find the perfect gifts for everyone on your list. Although it’s easy to get caught up in the retail spirit side of the holidays, take the opportunity to spend time with your loved ones and give back to your community—you’ll feel great knowing you’ve made a real difference, and you’re helping someone else brighten the holidays for their family. Here are a few different ways you can get involved in your community:

1. Dress for Success

Dress for Success is an international charity that helps disadvantaged women re-enter the workforce. You can either donate gently used work-appropriate clothing, or volunteer with the organization helping women choose clothing for interviews. Visit their website for more information.

2. The Local Library

Local libraries often have holiday initiatives to support families in need. Whether you’re baking a tray of holiday cookies for a bake sale, or volunteering to read to kids, your help will always be appreciated!

3. Move for Hunger

When you’re moving, or simply cleaning out your pantry, how many cans of non-perishable food do you toss? Move for Hunger provides a service where volunteers will come pick up any unwanted un-perishables, box them and deliver them to local food banks in need. Partnering with various food banks around the country, this initiative is growing quickly! Check out their website to see how you can get involved.

4. Plan Canada Because I’m a Girl Project

Empower girls through basic necessities, safety and education through this charity endeavor. There are millions of girls around the world who fight for the rights to what we think of as the basics every single day. You can make monetary donations, or volunteer your time to help spread the word about “The Girl Issue."
