13 07 tattoo removal laser 2Description: The Medlite C6 Laser is one of the most versatile lasers available for tattoo removal. The ideal candidate has fair skin with a black ink tattoo, but it can handle most skin types and tattoo colours.

How it’s done: Sun exposure needs to be avoided two weeks before and after treatment, and the area needs to be protected with sunscreen. A topical numbing cream is applied to the skin, and the laser feels a bit like a rubber band snapping on the skin. The laser filters out the different colours of ink in the area, and applies a different wavelength to each individual colour. The length of treatment depends on the size of the tattoo, and can take anywhere from 10 minutes to a few hours. Six to eight treatments are usually required, but it depends on the tattoo. In some cases, only partial removal will be possible.

Complications: A tingling or burning sensation following the treatment and redness can occur.

Recovery: A few days.

Cost: Starts at $150 per session.
