13 07 tattoo removal laserDescription: Tired of your tattoos? Not happy with how it turned out or how they've aged? There's really only one way to get rid of them -- and that's by having a laser treatment to remove them.

How it's done: A laser beam is fired in rapid bursts onto the tattoo, heating the pigment and causing it to erupt from the skin. You will need six to eight treatments for amateur tattoos, eight to 12 for professional tattoos.

Complications: Certain inks can react to the laser, creating a dark, untreatable chemical. Burning sensations can also be felt during treatment. Scarring is not unusual,  so ensure that the clinic has a Q-switched laser.

Recovery: Seven to 10 days.

Cost: $200 to $600 per treatment, depending on size.
