buccal fatDescription: Also known as cheek reduction surgery, it is where the buccal (or cheek) fat pad is removed from the patient’s face, to give a more sculpted, chiseled look to the cheeks. It is not recommended in patients over 40, as facial fat decreases as we age.

How it’s done: An incision is made inside the mouth between the cheek and gums (so there is no scar) and then the fat pads are removed through this incision. Dissolveable stitches are then used to close the incisions.

Complications: Discomfort, pain, swelling, and bruising. As with any wound, infection is also possible.

Recovery: A few days.

Cost: $3,500.
