13 07 lithium disilicate crownsDescription: The newest form of non-metal crowns, lithium disilicate is the strongest available ceramic. When done correctly it looks indistinguishable from your natural tooth.

How it’s done: It takes about an hour to prep the tooth to apply the crown, and patients receive a temporary crown until their lithium disilicate one arrives from the lab (which usually takes about a week). Then the crown is cemented into place.

Complications: Most complications have to do with the crown not being placed correctly, so it is very important to make sure your bite does not feel off after having it applied. If anything feels off after getting your new crown, you should go to your dentist immediately. Other common complications include pain, increased sensitivity, gum irritation and tenderness.

Recovery: It depends on what type of bonding cement your dentist uses, but it may be advised to avoid hard or sticky foods for a day or so.

Price: $900 per tooth.
