Elevate: Please describe your areas of concern, and the treatments you engaged in to address these concerns.
Victoria:I was overweight and had been on every diet on the planet, some more than once. It was easy to lose weight, impossible to keep it off. I spent thousands each year on diets and new clothes. I had lap–band surgery and lost 50 pounds and never looked back. I joined a gym and hired a personal trainer and was on my way to a great body. However, due to the weight loss my breasts became much smaller. I also had a lumpectomy the year before, which left a deformity in one of my breasts. I was going to the gym on a regular basis but I couldn’t get a flat stomach because I’d had two C–sections and a hysterectomy, so my muscles were damaged. My trainer said my only chance for a flat stomach was a tummy tuck. So, I thought, okay, I’ll have a tummy tuck ,and while I’m there, I might as well get nice new breasts, as well.

Elevate: How did you feel in the days leading up to the treatments? Were you nervous or excited?
Victoria: I was extremely excited and couldn’t wait for surgery and to see the outcomes. I was a bit worried about whether or not I had chosen the right size for my breasts. I had many, many appointments with Dr. Rice, going over and over the sizes. He advised me to put rice in baggies and wear them in my bra to determine what would be best for me – ultimately I let him pick the size as he is such an expert, and I’m very glad I did – they are perfect, and I love them. I was also a bit concerned about spending a large amount of money on myself. It felt selfish when we have so many other needs, but I went ahead regardless. And I can now say that in spite of the expense, it was well worth it and an investment I made in myself.

Elevate: How did you choose your doctor?
Victoria That was the easy part. I work in a hospital and asked around. 100 per cent of the people I asked said Dr. Sean Rice. I made an appointment and booked the surgery. I loved my interactions with Dr. Rice and his staff, their expertise, attention to detail, and their calm, helpful and professional manner. I never even thought about getting a second opinion; I had no need to. When hospital workers recommend someone, they know!

Elevate: Please describe how you felt immediately after the treatment and your recovery.
Victoria: Recovery after the liposuction was tough. It was extremely painful. I probably went back to work too soon (next day). After the tummy tuck and boob job (which was done a week after the lipo) I was fine. I slept a lot for a few days, but within a week I was back at work. It was a little uncomfortable, but nothing major.

Elevate: What type of results did you see and when did you notice them?
Victoria The results took six weeks. There was a lot of swelling in my stomach, and I wasn’t really prepared for that. It settled down, and now I have the flattest stomach. Dr. Rice repaired my muscles so now I’m working on a six–pack! My breasts took about the same amount of time to heal. Now they are lovely and I must say, I love shopping at Victoria’s Secret.

Elevate: How has this procedure changed your life?
Victoria I love buying and wearing new clothes – you probably think – what women doesn’t? Well if you don’t like your body, it isn’t fun and you don’t like buying new clothes – you buy them because you need to wear them. I now feel sexy and alive and no longer hide in corners or with big sweaters. I get a lot of attention from men and all my friends are asking about the procedure. For me it has been a great success and I am so glad I did it. I wish so much that I had done this years before. I love my body! I even walk around nude now – that would not even have been a thought before, never, never, never!

Elevate: Can you please explain how these procedures are performed?
Dr. Rice For the mastopexy (breast lift), the procedure involves repositioning the nipple to a higher level and the removal of extra skin. Occasionally a small amount of breast tissue is also removed to help create volume; a breast implant can also be used. With a tummy tuck the extra fat and skin are removed from the belly button to the pubic hair line. Usually the scar rides just above the pubic hair line. The rectus muscles are tightened from the pubic hair line to just underneath the breasts. This flattens the abdomen and pulls the waist line in. Liposuction is also performed to contour the love handles.

Elevate: What are the main benefits of these procedures?
Dr. Rice Psychologically, patients are more confident and regain self–esteem. Medically, eliminating the excess, overhanging skin will eliminate skins rashes, etc. Also, patients will have renewed ability to lead a healthier and more active lifestyle.

Elevate: What is the recovery like?
Dr. Rice Patients are mobile after two weeks, but should refrain from any strenuous activity. It takes six weeks for a return to regular, normal activities.

Elevate: Are there any risks?
Dr. Rice As with any surgery, there are risks involved. With these types of procedures, there is the risk of blood clots and hematomas, but several preventative measures are taken during our surgeries.

Elevate: What is the average cost of these procedures?
Dr. Rice A mastopexy costs between $7,500 and $8,500 and a tummy tuck: costs between $8,000 and $10,000
