Province Apothecary Custom Facial

Province Apothecary

In the heart of Toronto’s Kensington Market, Province Apothecary is the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. Founder Julie Clark creates skin-care products that are not only natural and organic but also from all over the country. From organic seaweed from Nova Scotia to organic raspberry oil and glacial clay from British Columbia, treatments from Province Apothecary are always a unique experience.

“For the custom facial, we determine our ingredient selection based on each client’s specific needs and concerns," explains Clark. “We assess their skin type, current condition and allergies or sensitivities. All of our aestheticians have a thorough understanding of carrier and essential oils.”

During my facial, the massage alone had me instantly relaxed. I was pleasantly surprised by the seaweed face mask, which left my skin feeling supple. I have a hard time finding exfoliators that won’t irritate or damage my skin, but Clark had a great solution for me: “We love to use gentle ingredients for exfoliation so that it can be used frequently throughout the week without causing irritation. Fresh fruit with active enzymes, such as pineapple, papaya or strawberries can be effectively used. Oats, flax seed and lentils are used in our exfoliator to gently slough away skin cells and smooth the surface of the skin.” I was sent home with blends of dry ingredients and instructions on how much water to add myself, so that my concoctions would last longer. Clark suggests scheduling a facial seven days prior to a special event, for your skin to look its most radiant.
