Since our face is usually exposed in the winter, it needs some extra attention!

Dr. Kucy Pon MD, FRCP(C), dermatologist at Sunnybrook Hospital Health Sciences Centre and P&G health consultant, agrees and suggests three steps to save us from winter- ravaged skin.

Step 1: Exfoliate

“During the winter, skin can look dull and lifeless due to the accumulation of dead skin cells on the surface of the skin,” says Dr. Pon. A regular exfoliation regime helps restore a smooth, healthy glow.

Step 2: Hydrate

“The dry Canadian climate can lead to fine lines and wrinkles," says Dr. Pon. "Moisturizing with the right cream can help to nourish and strengthen the skin’s structure in order to achieve visibly firmer skin.” Don’t skip the moisturizer–look for products that contain niacinamide, a water-soluable ingredient that can help to prevent the skin from losing water content.

Step 3: Protect

“One of the biggest errors women make during the winter is to stop using SPF. Even though the sun is not always visibly out, the UV rays still cut through the clouds and harm our skin.” Apply a broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection of at least SPF 15 (but 30 or more is better) every day!
