Hairstylist Joey Marchese shows us how to recreate the pompadour at home.

14 04 18amberheard 1We loved Amber Heard’s gorgeous pompadour updo at the Golden Globes so much, we spoke with Joey Marchese a hairstylist at Bob + Paige Salon and Essential Looks Artist for Schwarzkopf Professional, to learn how to create it for ourselves at home with his favourite products! Read on for his expert step-by-step guide.

1) Wash your hair using a volumising shampoo and conditioner and finish by applying a leave-in spray conditioner and detangler when hair is towel dried. Try Schwarzkopf Professional’s Volume Boost Shampoo, $14.50, and BC Moisture Kick Spray Conditioner, $16.50.

2) While the hair is still wet, apply a volumizing cream to the hair, starting at the root and working it through to the ends. Use a paddle brush to make sure the product is distributed evenly throughout the hair— this will help create body, smoothness and shine. Try Schwarzkopf Professional’s Osis+ Upload Lifting Volume Cream, $21.50.

3) Using a round brush, blow-dry all the hair forward toward the face to create tons of volume and body when you push the hair back off the face. Once the hair is dry, take one- and-a-half-inch sections of your hair and curl using a large or jumbo curling iron. Remember to protect the hair using Schwarzkopf Professional Osis+ Flatliner Flattening Iron Serum, $21, before styling!

4) Take the front section of your hair and separate it from the back section. Tease the back section of your hair at the root for more volume and texture using a fine-tooth comb or brush. Begin bringing sections of the hair from the front to the back and pin them at the crown of your head, where you just teased the hair. For extra holding power, use Schwarzkopf Professional Osis+ Session Extreme Hold Hairspray, $19, to hold hair in place, yet still have a soft feel.

5) For the front section, brush out the curl, creating a nice wave using flexible hair spray to help give you control of the strands. Then pull the hair up and back for a pompadoured style at the front. Secure in place with bobby pins and hairspray. Try Schwarzkopf Professional’s Osis+ Session Label Strong Hold Hairspray, $20.50, for a hold that will last all day and night.

TIP: Do not overtease the hair or your style will end up looking messy. The key to this style is keeping it soft and natural- looking, not overdone.
