Finding the perfect bra to make your bust look its best.

We all know that finding the perfect-fitting bra can take your ensemble from average to fabulous, but why is it so difficult to find one that fits just right? Whether you’re looking for sexy lingerie or a reliable everyday bra, Czerny Vanden Heuvel, national marketing specialist for Calvin Klein, shares great tips on finding the right size so that you can feel comfortable and supported, no matter what your endeavour.

Smaller Breasts

If you’re looking for a lift, “find a customized lift bra, that contains different-sized lift pads dependent on cup size. Try the Calvin Klein Seductive Comfort Customized Lift [pictured above],” suggests Vanden Heuvel. More padding doesn’t always make for the best option, so make sure to try on a few styles to find what looks most natural on you.

Medium-sized Breasts

Make sure your bands are adjusted correctly. “Measure firmly around the diaphragm, directly under the bust,” says Vanden Heuvel. “If the measurement is odd, add five inches; if even, add six inches. Add three inches only if the measurement is over 33.”

Larger Breasts

Women with larger breasts will need a more supportive bra. “The majority of a bra’s support comes from the band. It should fit comfortably but snug and should not ride up. The straps are secondary: Their primary function is to keep the bra even across. The straps should not dig into the shoulders and should stay in place,” explains Vanden Heuvel. Look for a bra with wider straps to avoid them digging in.

Post-Procedure Pick

After any breast-related plastic surgery, you want to make friends with supportive sports bras to help your recovery process. We love the Brooks Moving Comfort Fiona ($55, brooksrunning.com) because of its adjustable Velcro straps and moulded cups. You’re still getting lift, separation (yay, no uniboob!) and support, and these bras come in lots of fun colours!
