Get great hair by your next holiday party with these amazing products.

Step 1: Foreign Oil

Morroccanoil's Oil Treatment for all hair types ($40.80, at salons) is one of our favourite stand-by beauty products, no matter the season. It's perfect for preventing winter from drying out our locks and giving us frizzy, damaged hair. It can also work as a styling tool for taming flyaways when used sparingly. Brush a small amount through wet tresses and style as normal, avoiding putting too much on the roots. Our dried out tresses felt softer and smoother overnight. Talk about a holiday miracle!

Step 2. Caviar Dreams

Forget the visions of sugarplums. We're dreaming about shiny, silky hair just in time for the our next holiday soiree. Alterna's Caviar Anti-Aging 3 Minute Shine Boost ($25, Sephora.com) softens hair and brings vibrancy back to our colour after just one treatment. The secret is the caviar extract, a rich source of Omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin C, and a proven anti-oxidant, which turns aging, brittle hair into glossy, youthful-looking tresses. Work the product into wet hair, leave on for three minutes, and rinse off in the shower for lustrous, party ready locks. Use twice a week for best results. Free of parabens, gluten, phthalates, paraffin, and petroleum, this radiance booster makes it look like we just came from the salon!

Step 3. Tools of the Trade

Go from sleek, straight strands to bouncy waves and curls using one styling tool: the Amika Midnight Black Ceramic Styler ($135, loveamika.com) will be able get you through the entire holiday party season. The secret is the ceramic 1.25" ceramic, rounded, floating plates, which allow you to play more freely with your style and create beautiful ringlets as easily as you can flatten them. The ceramic plates maintain an even temperature, resulting in faster, more effective styling and each plate radiates far-infrared heat, which preserves more moisture in the hair shaft, meaning less damage overall.

Step 4. Finishing Touches

Hats and hoods may keep our heads warm but we can't stand how they flatten out our do'. Oligo Professional's Alcove Shaping & Finishing Spray ($13, at salons) gave our hair tons of volume and a strong hold against the elements. Used by salon professionals, the spray not only protected our hair from humidity and hat head, but it can be used during and after styling to help create our favourite looks. Spray 8-12 inches away from hair and style as desired. Finish off with a light mist to keep flyaways at bay.

Step 5. Holiday Blowout

We can admit it — we're salon blowout junkies at the best of times, but especially during the holidays. When we want our sleek style to last from holiday gathering to holiday gathering, we use dry shampoo. Try Pure+Simple's Organic Lavender Hair Powder ($19.95, pureandsimple.ca ) to help texturize hair while reducing oil buildup. Brush the powder through strands, focusing mostly on the scalp and working it through to the ends. Wavy hair? Try Marc Anthony's 2nd Day Clear Dry Shampoo ($11.99, all major drugstores), which makes brushing out your curls unnecessary. It sprays on invisible and leaves a lovely, just-washed scent. Tip: If you're going to re-straighten your hair on the second day, use the dry shampoo after styling and not before. It gave our blowout the body and shine it had on day one.
