Should you consider dental bonding for your teeth?

Everyone wants that perfect smile.  If you have a less-than-perfect grin, it can impact your self-confidence.  For most people, veneers are too expensive and out of the question. But now there’s a more economical alternative, called dental bonding, that will give you a smile as stunning as Julia Roberts’.

Dental bonding, a great alternative to veneers, repairs decayed, chipped or cracked teeth.  It can be used to improve discolouration, close up gaps, make  your teeth look longer for a less gummy smile or change the shape of your teeth, explains Dr. Sol Weiss, DDS, a cosmetic dentist at The Art of Dentistry ( in Toronto. Preparation is minimal, says Dr. Weiss, although most people like to get their teeth whitened before the procedure. Dental bonding takes 30 to 60 minutes per tooth to complete.

COST: $600 per tooth

RESULTS: Teeth bonding can last as long as 10 years, but it doesn’t resist stains as much as veneers. Stay away from nuts, ribs, wings or anything with a bone to avoid chips. Bonding works best for small cosmetic  dental changes or for the correction of teeth with low bite pressure, like the front teeth. Consult your dentist to see if teeth bonding can work for you.
